3 / Special Olympics Collaboration

2020

Special Olympics and Parsons School of Design joined forces in the spring semester of 2020 for an exciting collaboration. Students from Parsons School of Design were paired with athletes of different abilities to co-design figure skating practice gear for the athletes to use in their training.

I was paired with Mickey Chan, a talented figure skater with unique abilities, and together we co-designed a collection of figure skating practice gear.

Our collection, which focused on sustainable material alternatives for outdoor athletic sportswear, was inspired by Mickey's needs and challenges. I aimed to re-imagine his figure skating practice wear by addressing the weak areas of his current garments and improving his overall performance ability while prioritizing his comfort and confidence both on and off the ice.

I am honored to have worked alongside Mickey, and the images showcase the results of our collaborative effort. The experience has been humbling, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the intersection of creativity, inclusivity, and sustainability in the world of athletics through this meaningful collaboration with the Special Olympics.
