Special Olympics Collaboration
In the spring semester of 2020, the Special Olympics and Parsons School of Design came together to work on a first-time collaboration. The students were paired with athletes of different abilities and co-designed figure skating practice gear for the athletes to train in.
Below are images of Abby Gaskin and Mickey Chan's (the S.O. athlete) co-designed collection. It is heavily focused on sustainable material alternatives in outdoor athletic sportswear. In the process of creation, Abby was thinking of re-imagining Mickey's figure skating practice wear, by targeting the weak areas of his current garments. She had the intention of improving his overall performance ability while making him feel comfortable and confident on/off the ice.
